What if the first step was that simple? Today, decide to say something nice to yourself. Something small and true, but kind. Say it over and over and over until you believe it. Tomorrow, do the same thing. Each day, be on a quest to make the proportion of kind self-talk greater than the critical, harsh inner voice. Notice how much better you feel....
How is it possible for two people in an interaction to have such profoundly different experiences? Do you ever feel like your life is like one of those sitcom episodes that shows the same events from different characters' perspectives and the humor is in how dramatically different each depiction is?
Being livid can revitalize, mobilize to action, help us understand what matters to us at our core.
Striving to make ourselves better in some way. Mastering a skill...Achieving a goal...And, taking the time to acknowledge what we have achieved. This can contribute to our ability to flourish.

Self-sufficient. I'm enough. It sounds nice. Being self-sufficient doesn't mean be a selfish, narcissistic, jerk. It can mean being a boundaried, confident, and loving adult.
As soon as we notice a small snag in the sweater we are wearing, it is hard to notice anything else. We don't think about how soft and warm and wonderful the sweater is. Don't fondly recall the wear and tear that led to the snag. Don't notice how stylish and adorable we look in it. We just see the snag...
One of my goals as an adult is to spend as much of my time as possible feeling good in my skin. Most of the folks who come to see me in therapy share a similar goal. Though it is often easier said than done, there is actually a wealth of research out there to help us feel happy, fulfilled, and generally better about ourselves.
